A traffic controller told police he’d puffed on a “billy” before work the day he tested positive behind the wheel, Maryborough Magistrates Court has heard.
Daniel Peter Schwartz, 50, pleaded guilty to one count of drug driving on Tuesday.
Magistrate John Milburn asked if Schwartz was applying for a work licence, but he said the incident happened in a work ute, so he wasn’t eligible.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Sonia Edwards told the court that on September 18, 2024, about 6.30am in the morning Schwartz was stopped by police in relation to another matter.
He took a roadside drug test and admitted to officers he’d smoked marijuana “through a billy” about 4am that morning, she said.
Schwartz, who was representing himself, told to court he was employed as a traffic controller, and this would impact on his job.
Magistrate John Milburn said he would factor in Schwartz’s previous good history and contribution to the community.
Schwartz was fined $250 and suspended from driving for a month.
No conviction was recorded.
