A father of two who was busted with cannabis and a knife disguised as a torch has faced court.
Adam James Gormley, 43, pleaded guilty in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to possessing dangerous drugs and possessing a knife in a public place.
Police prosecutor Louise McConnell said on March 11, 2025, about 11.30pm, police had stopped Gormley, who was riding a scooter on Urraween Rd.
He admitted to having about seven grams of cannabis in a clipseal bag.
After a search of Gormley, police also located a torch knife, which was in his bag.
Ms McConnell said the blade of the knife was about three inches long and folded into the torch.
She said Gormley had been co-operative with police, making full admissions.
She also said Gormley had come before the court on multiple occasions for similar offending and had received significant fines as well as suspended terms of imprisonment.
The court heard had been working as a spray painter but was currently unemployed and being supported by his partner.
He had two children aged 6 and 4, the court was told.
Magistrate Trinity McGarvie said while Gormley had been cooperative with police, he had in his possession a knife which was disguised as a torch, a “significant weapon” that shouldn’t be in the community.
Gormley was given a head sentence of four months in prison, wholly suspended for 12 months and convictions were recorded.
