Accused flasher in custody weeks after ankle monitor removed

An accused flasher freed from ankle monitoring has returned to custody just weeks after his successful bail application.

Ian Edward Fleming is charged with wilful exposure so near to a public place, four counts of indecent act in any place to which the public is permitted access, four counts of wilful exposure, common assault, breach of bail condition, failing to store small ammunition and power device cartridges in a secured area, failing to safely secure weapons, and driving while his licence was suspended.

An accused flasher who successfully argued to have his ankle monitor removed last month is back in jail.

Ian Edward Fleming is charged with wilful exposure near a public place, four counts of indecent act in any place to which the public is permitted access, four counts of wilful exposure, common assault, breach of bail condition, failing to store small ammunition and power device cartridges in a secured area, failing to safely secure weapons, and driving while his licence was suspended.

The charges, some of which stem from alleged incidents on Dundowran Beach, Urraween and Burrum Heads, were mentioned in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this week.

Mr Fleming did not appear.

Last month a successful application was made to vary his bail.

Defence lawyer Virginia Ukpabi said the application was to remove the residential condition and the requirement that Mr Fleming wear a monitoring device on his ankle.

She said he had been admitted to hospital under long-term care after a diagnosis of dementia.

There were plans to move Mr Fleming to Maryborough Hospital and then into an aged care facility, she said.

But in court this week it was mentioned that Mr Fleming was in custody.

His appearance was excused and the matter was adjourned until December 11, 2025.
