A modern country addition to the Fraser Coast’s wedding and events scene could soon be a reality.

This publication can reveal an application to create a function space on a working cattle farm Wooden Gates at 59 Pioneer Rd, Graham’s Creek needs one final tick from the local council.

According to the planning documents, the space would include a contemporary barn-like building with a “modern boho country styling to the interior comprising a mixture of recycled timber, corrugated iron and weatherboard” looking out over grazing land between Mungar and Yengarie, southwest of Maryborough.

“The structure is designed to blend with the rural landscape,” the application on behalf of Craig Bretz and Afton Bennett reads:

“Few opportunities exist on the Fraser Coast for wedding and function facilities catering for small to medium scale event planning.

“The applicant is proposing to provide a boutique function facility that can cater to weddings, birthday parties or team events in a rural setting.”

The documents show the site already has an existing home, outbuildings including sheds and stabling, paddocks and dams.

The function space would take up 1.4ha of the 16ha site for the proposed function facility and the new 212m2 building could host up to 100 people.

A kitchen space would enable offsite catering to be brought in and served to guests with tea and coffee provided.

Cakes, cookies and “low risk finger food” including grazing platters may also be prepared at the premises depending on client needs and the size of the event”.

Concept images for the business show theming keeping in line with the setting including wheelbarrows packed with beers on ice and long wooden banquet-style tables with native greenery down the centre.

Alcohol would initially be BYO with “further consideration of a full licence at a future point in time”.

“Landscaped outside areas will be available for a unique setting in which to hold ceremonies, participate in outdoor lawn games, such as bocce, or croquet, with other areas that also allow guests to sit, relax and mingle,” the documents read

“Several opportunities will be available for photographic settings within the rural surrounds and the proposed landscaped garden areas and old cattle yard feature fencing.

“Hedges and shrubs are proposed for screening and to create intimate outdoor rooms and spaces.”

Official parking spaces would be marked with railway sleepers with a regularly slashed paddock providing space for more parking.

On-site management would oversee the running of the functions business which will be open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-9pm, Friday and Saturday 10am-10.30pm and Sundays 10am-5pm (closed Wednesdays).

“The restricted hours and BYO licence conditions will limit potential for disturbance to the existing residence and surrounding land,” the application reads

“Music is proposed to be limited to non-amplified outside or amplified to a limit of 75 decibels measured at 3m from the source.

“Within the building, piped or amplified music to approximately 65-75 dB will provide the ability to have background music.

“Where live music is proposed by the client, this will be required to meet acceptable standards and within suitable hours to minimise potential nuisance to neighbouring properties.”

A spokesman for the Fraser Coast Regional Council said the application was now at “decision” stage.

It’s understood the application is assessable by council officers and will not need to go before a council meeting.
