When I heard RACQ's latest stats that cars being keyed was the most common form of vandalism for 2015 I felt a need to share my experience.

It was back in my uni days - so about 11 years ago.

I was a 1987 Corolla that I had saved my pennies to buy with at age 17.

It was one of the proudest moments in my life, going in with dad to buy my first car that I worked so hard for.

I parked at the shopping centre where I was working in retail at the time.

I'm not sure how long my shift was that day, but I remember coming out extremely tired and super keen to drive home to relax.

That was until I saw what had happened.

I had to double take - really is that my front bumper bar laying on the ground?

It had been ripped off - not sure how - and there was no note.

I don't understand how someone could do that and not leave a message.

How could you walk away with that on your conscience?

Would you leave a note? I know I would. 

Maybe they just thought - "old car who cares?"

The silver lining of the story is an old man saw my distress and wandered over to help.

He had some rope and helped me tie my bumper back to the vehicle until I got home.
