No, mums don't have to be switched on 24/7

I WANT to talk for a minute about Constance Hall.

I WANT to talk for a minute about Constance Hall.

I'm not a mum, but I spend a fair bit of time on Facebook.

A lot of the posts on Facebook are directed at women and in particular mothers.

And a whole lot of it is preachy, judgmental and condescending.

There were two posts circulating urging mums, in short, to "look up from your phone. You need to watch your children. You must watch your children being amazing at all times. Life is too short".

To this well intentioned but eye-roll-inducing advice, blogger Constance Hall replied: "To the woman at the park, looking at her phone, ignoring her children, I salute you. For not giving into the public perception that you should be switched on 24 hours a day".

Now that is advice I can get behind.

Most parents are doing a tremendous job.

Parenting is hard.

Sometimes we all need a time out, whether the perfect people on social media like it or not.

Reading Constance Hall on Facebook is like getting a breath of fresh air after you've been held under water too long.

Let's give each other a break.
