Down a country road in this tiny Coast suburb, a unique business has been hidden away … until now.
All the handmade baby clothing and embroidery needs you could wish for including teddy bears, towels and outfits of every colour can be found in this shop.
Bush Bubs Clothing & Embroidery, at 538 Teddington Road in Teddington, just a few minutes from Tinana, is a treasure you’ll be glad to have found.
Teddington local and Bush Bubs owner Theresa Staib can make almost anything, also offering machine embroidery on whatever it can be done on – if “(she) can embroider it, (she’ll) embroider it.”
While locals in the know frequent the business, Theresa recently reached out on social media to remind people to spread the word to the wider community.
“I make baby-bibs, bunny rugs, change mats, outfits, library bags, chair bags, kindy sheet sets, drink bottle covers, cot sheet sets, baby rattles, tea towels … I also do machine embroidery,” Theresa told the Chronicle
“I have embroidered some crazy stuff before, definitely … on men G-strings, even, but I don’t ask questions, I just do the job!”
The store’s bestsellers are obvious, as they’re “personalised and a little keepsake for life.”
“My embroidered towels and embroidered teddy bears, with the baby‘s birth details on them, are my number one biggest seller because they’re unique,” Theresa said.
A hobby turned business, the store is a “dream” for Theresa, who has been making clothes for about 21 years, and embroidering for about 15.
“It all started out when I was pregnant with my second daughter, it inspired me to make little girly things … my dream was to one day own my own shop,” she said.
After selling her creative pieces at markets for seven years, from 2001 to 2008, Theresa took it to the next level, where she opened her store in Teddington, allowing her to broaden her range for customers.
And, built by her husband, the store is on solid ground.
“The only reason I do have my business is because of my husband, Jason … he built my shop for me and really made it happen … having a store is something that I always wanted to do and he pushed me,” she said.
“If it wasn‘t for him, I wouldn’t have what I’ve got, and I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Bush Bubs Clothing & Embroidery is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am until 5pm and, Saturday from 10.30am until 5pm.
