A REPORT on how to de-amalgamate the Fraser Coast has been rejected with councillors concerned it would be "divisive" and affect the progress of the region.
Division 2 councillor Anne Maddern moved a motion to call for a report on the process of splitting the Fraser Coast.
But Ms Maddern said it was "primarily intended as good manners" to constituents who have raised the possibility of de-amalgamating.
She said the issue had not gone away and people were still talking about it.
Her calls drew appreciation from other councillors who acknowledged she was listening to her constituents.
But the appreciation did not turn into support.
WHAT YOU'RE SAYING ON FACEBOOK:
Christine Hogan: What a waste of valuable council effort, time and money...if this region spent as much time in trying to get on together (rather than constantly fighting like little children over whom is getting the lions share) what a wonderful area this could be.
Steve Howard: They say that camels were horses designed by a committee.......as far as I can see, councils are no better. As soon as they get the job they seem to get weird ideas and lose their grip on the real world!
Brenda Mcdermott: Do the job you were put there for and make the area wonderful.
Belinda Mason: Councils all over the country are de-amalgamation . IT WORKS . Fraser Coast Council needs to do this the area is too big to run one council give Maryborough back their own council so they can stop whinging.
Deputy mayor George Seymour said he received calls from concerned citizens about why the council was discussing de-amalgamation after the Chronicle's story this week.
When Cr Seymour asked his colleagues who would support de-amalgamation, none answered.
Councillor Rolf Light said de-amalgamating would be like "unscrambling the egg".
"People need to get over it, it's not financially sustainable," he said.
Former Woocoo Shire councillor and now Fraser Coast councillor James Hansen suggested some of the community's anger about forced amalgamation in 2008 was due to a lack of consultation.
"They were not allowed to have a say," he said.
The call for a report was lost 2-9.
