No campgrounds to be closed on Fraser Island on Tuesday

UPDATE: With no plans to close any more campgrounds on Fraser Island, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is urging campers to take care.

UPDATE: Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will not close campgrounds on Fraser Island on Tuesday afternoon but is urging campers to take care.

Fraser Coast area manager Ross Belcher said visitors should not enter any tracks or roads that have already been closed due to last month's flooding.

"Rangers will continue to monitor the situation," he said.

EARLIER: Campers may have to evacuate Fraser Island for the third time in as many weeks on Tuesday.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is deciding whether the island will remain safe for tourists in the case of more heavy rain and flooding.

A number of camping areas and roads are already closed and several should only be used with "extreme caution".

Kingfisher Bay Resort closed and then reopened bookings for tours leaving Rainbow Beach on Wednesday.

They will re-evaluate the situation later in the day on Tuesday.
