New mum breaks dog out of pound, steals from home, but leaves behind fingerprints and phone

She broke a pet dog out of a council pound and stole from a home but this new Queensland mum wasn’t a skilled crim, leaving behind not only her fingerprints but also her mobile phone.

Leaving a trail at crime scenes led to a new mum getting busted, first for breaking into a council pound and taking a dog and then for stealing from a home.

Toogoom’s Kaytlan Rebecca Erin Judson-Dowling appeared before Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this week facing numerous charges, including breaching bail, two counts of entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence and driving without a licence.

The incident involving the dog happened at Gladstone council’s pound, the court heard.

A man, who the Fraser Coast Chronicle understands was known to Judson-Dowling, called the council to claim the dog, a female boxer, but he failed to attend as per the arrangements.

The council pound was then broken into and the dog taken via cut fence.

Judson-Dowlings fingerprints were later found at the scene.

When questioned, Judson-Dowling denied having been to the council pound or even stopping in Gladstone, telling police she had only ever passed the city on the highway and she “didn’t know why” her fingerprints would be there.

The council pound was then broken into and the dog was taken.

The court heard on July 2 in Urangan, Judson-Dowling had entered a home and taken a number of items, including an iPod, a camera, jewellery, clothing, sunglasses and shoes.

On this occasion she not only let her fingerprints behind but also her mobile phone.

The court heard she had also committed other offences over that period, including driving without a licence (hers had expired in 2015).

She’d failed to report to police as part of her bail conditions 10 times.

Judson-Dowling was a full time mum to a two month old baby and had been struggling with a meth addiction when the offences occurred.

Her lawyer told the court Judson-Dowling had been clean for eight months and was now focused on her rehabilitation.

She was given a 12 month head sentence, wholly suspended for two years and fined $750.
