Two men will face Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with letting underage drivers get behind the wheel on the beach at Fraser Island.

The charges stem from the first weekend in July 2022, when officers from Fraser Island were carrying out patrols along Eastern Beach when they stopped a vehicle being driven by an underage and unlicensed driver.

The passenger, a 55-year-old Strathpine man, was charged with permitting another to drive while unlicensed.

A short time later, officers stopped another vehicle also allegedly being driven by an underage and unlicensed driver.

The passenger, a 43-year-old Victorian man, was charged with permitting another to drive while unlicensed.

Both men will face court on Wednesday, July 20.

Police issued a warning for those on Fraser Island to take care.

“Allowing unlicensed drivers with no experience to drive puts themselves, passengers, pedestrians and other vehicles at higher risk of injury,” Senior Constable Leigh Nancarrow said.

“Drivers on the beach need to be experienced and cautious.”

Snr Const said the same road rules applied on the beach as on the road.
