Maygar the monster: Horrific murderer once walked with our kids

A killing spree by a former Fraser Coast man was so savage that blood from the three victims dripped down the walls and splattered on the ceiling of the Toowoomba unit where they were bludgeoned to death.

Scott Geoffrey Maygar cold-bloodedly killed the first of three men because he had refused to take him to Maryborough to get weapons, the Toowoomba Supreme Court heard in one of Queensland's most shocking murder cases which came to an end late yesterday.

During the killings a young mother of a 21-month-old baby was repeatedly raped and threatened with a knife by Maygar and a youth, who cannot be named. Before the third man died, the woman was called to come out and watch "Michael being killed", the court was told.

Maygar, 20, was sentenced yesterday to life in prison with parole after 20 years for the May 30, 2005, murders of Michael Thompson, 30, and David Lyons, 17, the manslaughter of Tyson Wilson, 17, and the four counts of raping the woman.

His co-accused, a Rockhampton teenager, was also jailed for life, with parole after 15 years for crimes Crown prosecutor Michael Byrne described as "horrific and bizarre".

Maygar, one of four children, lived with his mother at Van Doorn Road in Tiaro during his last years of primary school. His father was in the army.

Scott Maygar, who had a disturbed childhood, went to primary school in Tiaro and had a chequered record at Aldridge State High and Maryborough High.
