An ambitious plan to develop land that has long been vacant in Maryborough’s Neptune Street has been hailed an exciting game-changer for that part of the city.

A community focus is being planned for vacant land in Neptune Street, Maryborough, with a concept plan set to be presented to council.

Developer Brett Hore purchased the site with plans to make it a hub of community services.

He said the Neptune St project would be “quite a mixed use site”.

Mr Hore envisions the site offering a daycare centre, a medical precinct and disability accommodation to support nearby hospitals and schools.

“We’re trying to cover all elements of care to all parts of the community,” he said.

Mr Hore has been developing in Maryborough for more than a decade, with his current focus on subdivisions in Tinana.

He said he wanted to give back to the community that had given so much to him.

“The city’s been good to me,” he said.

A clean up of the site had been completed in recent weeks, Mr Hore said.

He said he intended to renovate the remaining building on the site, but was unsure what its purpose would be.

“It’s a great site,” he said.

“I really think we can do great things there.”

The land had previously been purchased to build an aged care facility, but had been vacant for a number of years before being purchased for redevelopment by Mr Hore.

He’s hoping to continue to engage with the community to get the most out of the site.

Councillor Paul Truscott said he was excited about the prospect of the development.

“I’m very excited about the potential for a development in this area,” he said.

“This is an area that has been in need of some TLC for a while and having seen the developer’s previous works, I have great faith that this will be another highlight and bring life into this side of town.”
