Maryborough’s Brian William David fined for carrying steak knife

A man found with a knife on a busy Maryborough street has told a court he learned from a previous experience.

A man, who was spotted with a steak knife in a busy Maryborough street, has told a court he carried it for protection.

Brian William David pleaded guilty in Maryborough Magistrates Court on Tuesday to one count of possessing a knife in a public place,

The court heard on November 24, about 9.30am on Ferry Street, David was seen with the knife near a service station, causing alarm among members of the public.

Police were called and David told them he was waiting for someone at the service station and had brought the knife for protection.

Addressing Magistrate Kurt Fowler, David said he had been threatened before, which was why he had the knife on him

“I wasn’t going to use it,” he said.

David was fined $200.
