Maryborough’s Bernadette Thompson opens dog bakery

From ‘pupcakes’ to cookies, a new Maryborough business is serving up baked treats for the four-legged members of local families.

A new bakery that will deliver delicious natural treats for beloved canine companions has been started in Maryborough.

Bernadette Thompson came up with the business idea thanks to her own furry companions, Dachshunds Frankie and Bella.

Mrs Thompson loves making healthy treats for her beloved pets and she decided it was a skill she wanted to share with others who were also keen to spoil their pooches.

The business, Frankie and Bella Bog Barkery, will create treats, cupcakes (fittingly called pupcakes) and birthday cakes for animals across the region.

Mrs Thompson said pets were like family and she knew a lot of people enjoyed doing special things for their dogs.

“I’ve always loved working with animals,” she said.

Years ago, she had operated a popular dog grooming business.

“I know people love their animals, they bring so much joy,” she said.

“I wanted to make it all puppy safe, all the ingredients, even the frosting, is safe for puppies and dogs.”

Mrs Thompson said she had been working on the business, which is operating from her home, for about a month and with the Facebook page up and running and taking orders, she was also looking at getting a website ready.
