Pilot injured in microlight aircraft crash on Fraser Island

A pilot has been flown to hospital after a microlight aircraft crashed while attempting to land at an air strip on Fraser Island.

A pilot was lucky to escape serious injury after he crashed his microlight aircraft while trying to land at an air strip on Fraser Island.

Emergency services were called to an air strip near Orchid Beach, on the north eastern side of the island, after the pilot lost control while trying to land just before 9am on Saturday.

The man in his 50s managed to free himself and was given first aid by the pilot of a second microlight aircraft that was travelling behind.

Paramedics later treated the pilot for chest and spinal injuries.

He was flown by RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
