Man hits himself with spear gun and fractures eye socket

A BRISBANE man is in a stable condition after hitting himself in the eye with a spear gun while underwater spearfishing.

A BRISBANE man is in a stable condition after hitting himself in the eye with a spear gun.

The man, aged in his 20s, was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital from Fraser Island by the AGL Action Rescue helicopter on Monday afternoon.

"The man managed to hit himself in the eye with a spear gun while underwater spearfishing, and suffered a fractured eye socket," a rescue helicopter spokeswoman said.

The man was treated at the Happy Valley Ambulance Station before being airlifted to Hervey Bay.
