She made headlines when she starred on Ninja Warrior and continued to make her mark on the gymnastics scene.
Now, Torquay’s Amy Stephenson is eyeing her third Australian Masters Games.
This is all while studying to become a Registered Nurse.
Speaking to the Chronicle while training at the Wide Bay Gymnastics Club, she reminisces on her history here which began when the club was first established in 1997.
Amy soon realised gymnastics was where she “wanted to excel”.
“During my teenage years, I was offered the opportunity to assist with coaching younger gymnasts and I will never forget how amazing it felt to teach aspiring gymnasts what I had learnt from my own experience in gymnastics … the way they looked up to me was heart melting,” Amy said
And, her biggest driver is her girls – Ally, 10, and, Isabelle, 7.
“My desire to compete … is to make my daughters proud, I endeavour to show them that if they are dedicated enough to put their mind and heart into accomplishing their goals, anything is achievable,” she said.
“There isn’t such a focus on winning at the games, rather, the focus is more directed toward challenging our own personal goals.”
Amy’s final nursing placement as a university student will be just before she and her girls travel to Perth for her third Australian Master Games, which will take place from October 9 until October 16.
“This has become a bit of a tradition for us … as a single mother, I could not be prouder of the amazing young ladies they are becoming, and I will continue to do whatever it takes to continue inspiring them to become the best versions of themselves.”
