Legal action to be taken after dog attack that killed Amanda Carmichael

Maryborough woman Amanda Carmichael was killed when three dogs believed to be pitbull cross breeds attacked her last year.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour talks about the penstock gate being installed in Maryborough overnight.

Legal action is being taken against a dog owner whose three animals, believed to be pitbull cross breeds, were involved in a fatal dog attack in Maryborough in 2021.

The Fraser Coast Regional Council issued a statement on Thursday, May 26, 2022, confirming it had begun legal action against the dog owner, who cannot be named for legal reasons, after Amanda Carmichael was killed when three dogs attacked her in Milton St on June 8 last year.

The statement said it had begun legal action for breaches of animal management laws.

“As this is a legal matter, council will make no further statements on this matter,” the statement read.

Ms Carmichael died at the scene of the attack in June, 2021.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, her mother Bonnie Carmichael remembered her daughter as someone who was “very kind and caring”.

“She loved life. She would do anything for anybody,” she told the Fraser Coast Chronicle.

Amanda cherished her family and friends, especially her beloved daughter and her brother, Anthony.

Her mum was frank about the challenges Ms Carmichael had faced during her life, including her drug addiction.

“She had issues but she was loved and cared for,” Bonnie said.

“She still had a lot of love to give.”

The three dogs involved in the attack were allegedly found to be unregistered and were destroyed in the aftermath of the incident.
