Punching a police officer in the stomach has landed a Hervey Bay teenager before court.
Jasmine Maree Eckert, 19, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer when she faced Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The court heard on November 3, 2022, police were called to the Esplanade in Hervey Bay by the Queensland Ambulance Service, with paramedics needing assistance to treat an intoxicated woman.
When police arrived, Eckert was lying on the ground but as they approached, she got to her feet and ran away, the court was told.
Police got back in their vehicle and later saw Eckert standing on the Esplanade yelling and screaming.
The officers stopped the vehicle and one of the officers approached Ekert, who came towards him and punched him with a closed fist to the chest.
She then pushed him and attempted to strike him a third time, but was arrested, the court heard.
Eckert was then taken to the watch-house where she was later released on bail.
The court heard Ekert had no previous criminal history.
Eckert told the court she was currently unemployed but looking for work in hospitality.
She said she was trying to stop drinking.
Eckert had stopped taking medication for her depression and anxiety because she was drinking, she said.
She was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and no conviction was recorded.
