A Maryborough woman has been sentenced over a midnight argument between her and an ex-partner in an Urraween shopping centre, which resulted in her damaging a taxi and fleeing the scene as police arrived.

Jade Kacey Castle-Broadfoot pleaded guilty in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to charges including wilful damage and failure to comply with a requirement to stop a private vehicle.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Sonia Edwards said on February 4 at 12.05am police were called to Stockland’s Shopping Centre in Urraween after reports of an altercation.

As they drove into the carpark they could see the argument between Castle-Broadfoot and her former partner becoming more aggressive.

The police prosecutor said the argument escalated to Castle-Broadfoot “kicking” the left door panel of the taxi multiple times before fleeing the scene in her black Mitsubishi Outlander.

The court was told she then returned to the shopping centre and was arrested.

Castle-Broadfoot has two children and is paid about $800 a week from Centrelink.

Her previous employment had involved owning a cleaning business and being a gardener.

Lawyer Ria Ku told the court the defendant was undergoing counselling to improve her mental health and was willing to do community service.

Ms Ku said given Castle-Broadfoot’s had “limited history” and had given an early plea so fines should be in range.

Magistrate John Milburn fined her $1000.

Convictions were recorded.
