An investigation has begun to identify two dingoes that set upon an eight-year-old boy who was walking along the beach at K’gari with his family.
The incident happened near Happy Valley about 7pm on Saturday.
The boy was bitten on the buttocks and lower back as a result of the interaction.
It is understood the boy fell over and the dingoes bit and scratched him before his father picked him up and put himself between his child and the animals.
The boy was assessed by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics on the island and was transported to the mainland for further treatment.
QPWS rangers are investigating the incident, however the gender and identification status of the dingoes are unknown at this stage.
It comes just weeks after a 10-year-old boy was bitten on the shoulder by a dingo and dragged under water in front of a campsite in June.
Around the same time, video emerged of a dingo nipping an unsuspecting French tourist on the backside while she sunbathed on an island beach.
A few months prior, a six-year-old girl was held underwater by a dingo at Waddy Point on the island.
Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact a QPWS ranger by calling 07 4127 9150.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service extends its sympathies to the boy and his family, and wishes him a speedy recovery.
People are encouraged to be dingo safe and report any negative dingo encounters to a QPWS ranger or to phone 07 4127 9150 or email dingo.ranger@des.qld.gov.au as soon as possible.
