Infidelity bites for local Twihards on eve of premiere

A DECLINE in ticket sales to the final instalment of the Twilight saga has a Hervey Bay manager wondering if the lead actor's infidelity might be responsible.

KRISTEN Stewart's recent infidelity seems to have had consequences for the Twilight premiere in Hervey Bay.

Ticket sales have been slower than usual at Hervey Bay BigScreen Cinemas in the lead up to the final instalment of the saga, leading manager Brenda Day to wonder if Stewart's indiscretion has destroyed the fantasy for Twihards on the Fraser Coast.

Stewart plays Bella Swan in the Twilight series, a teenage girl who falls in love with Edward Cullen, a 100-year-old vampire played by Robert Pattinson.

Stewart and Pattinson had a real-life romance that hit the rocks when Stewart was revealed to have cheated on her beau with Rupert Sanders, who directed her in Snow White and the Huntsman.

Ms Day remained confident ticket sales would pick up ahead of the midnight screening on Wednesday but acknowledged that compared to the past instalments, ticket sales had been slow.

She was looking forward to seeing the audience members dress up in outrageous outfits inspired by the characters from the series, which she had seen regularly at previous instalments of the series.

Both Maryborough and Hervey Bay cinemas are showing Breaking Dawn Part One, which was released last year, and Breaking Dawn Part two as a double feature.

The first instalment will be screened first, with the second instalment to be shown at midnight at both cinemas.

In Maryborough, Twihards seem to be a little more forgiving than their counterparts in Hervey Bay, with Maryborough Plaza 4 Cinema manager Becky Bull confirming she was expecting a sellout crowd.

Both Ms Day and Ms Bull said Twilight had been an unexpected hit.

Ms Day said no one could have foreseen how the movies would capture the public's imagination.

Ms Bull said it was great to see how books could be brought to life on the big screen.

She was already looking to the future and said the expected film adaptation of the erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey could be another big hit.
