A woman has been seriously injured after a fall at a popular Queensland rock pool, with a rescue helicopter needing to winch her out of the water.
Emergency crews rushed to Utopia Falls in Boompa, 73km west of Maryborough, around midday on Sunday after a woman broke her leg from a two-metre fall into a rock pool, a statement from LifeFlight said.
The woman, in her 40s, needed to be rescued out of the pool by a helicopter, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.
An off-duty paramedic was able to attend to her, keeping her stable while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.
At around 2pm, a paramedic was winched down to the patient to assess her injuries, the statement from LifeFlight said.
“Due to the rocky terrain and lack of landing area, the rescue crew decided it was safest to winch the QAS Flight Paramedic, along with a stretcher, down to the patient,” it said.
The paramedic then strapped her into a stretcher, and the pilot circled back, hoisting the injured woman into the helicopter, it said.
She was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Service were also on scene to assist QAS with the rescue.
Utopia Falls, or Utopia Rock Pools, nestled within Mt Walsh National Park, has increasingly become a tourist destination with visitors and locals enjoy its hiking trails and cascading sets of rockpools.
