Shock footage and photos showing teens police believe to be in a car stealing ring allegedly responsible for causing carnage across a city rocked by one of its worst crashes in history, have emerged.
It comes as police from across Southeast Queensland arrive in Maryborough as part of a plan to beef up patrols in response to escalating youth crime.
The Courier Mail obtained the video and images after it exclusively revealed how a 13-year-old boy charged over a triple fatal on April 30, allegedly got from Bundaberg to Maryborough the night of the crash.
A 15-year-old Granville girl is understood to have picked up the boy from Bundaberg, driven him to Maryborough and dropped him off at some point before he allegedly stole a Mercedes and crashed, killing Reach Church members Michale Chandler, 29 and Kelsie Davies, 17 and 52-year-old nurse Sheree Robertson.
In the images the pair can be seen posing in front of a car with a number plate that reads Bundaberg Toyota, the girl is behind the wheel of a car and the boy poses with a large knife.
In the video, the girl can be seen driving on what appears to be the Bruce Highway.
It’s understood the images stem from two separate events and any matching of them to the Bundaberg to Maryborough road trip remains under investigation.
It has however been confirmed that the 15-year-old girl has since been arrested and charged with the alleged theft of two cars from Maryborough.
Police will allege the girl helped steal a Kia Cerato and Mitsubishi Lancer, from a Woodstock Street address on April 29.
The Mitsubishi Lancer was found damaged at the intersection of Lennox Street and Kent Street, Maryborough on April 30.
The Kia was found damaged on Buckler Street, Maryborough on May 1 after it was allegedly driven past the Maryborough police station where at least three people threw things out the window and taunted police who were unable to pursue due to legislation and the CBD location.
A second 13-year-old, accused of helping steal the Mercedes but was not involved in the fatal crash, is also charged over the theft of the Kia.
The girl, who was not involved in the fatal crash, has been charged with two counts each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving of motor vehicle without a drivers licence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted property and one count of enter dwelling and commit.
She is due before Maryborough Childrens Court this week.
Her alleged role as the Bundaberg to Maryborough driver was exposed by her own sister after the tagging of her siblings and associates on a Facebook community forum sparked a heated exchange with furious locals.
In one post the sister, who cannot be named for legal reasons says “(the girl) makes her own choices … yeah she’s friends with (name of 13-year-old), yeah she brang (him) to Maryborough the night he got into an accident but still gives use no right to run her down about it”.
She also claims in a post the 13-year-old boy “never meant it (the crash) intentionally”, suffered from “mental health issues” and the crash would not have happened had he not been “chased” by “grubby people” (police have denied a pursuit took place).
“My condolences go out to the family who have lost their loved ones, it’s unfortunate that they lost their lives, still, as I said, he didn’t mean it.”
The posts attracted a barrage of savage responses with one saying “so he intentionally stole the car … but it’s not his fault he doesn’t know how to drive … Do you know how dumb you sound?”
One wrote “she’s 15 and driving to Bundy to go get a 13-year-old who she brings back to Maryborough and he (allegedly) kills three people, possibly 4 and you think no one had the right to run her down? U must be on drugs too or delusional”.
Another member of the page pleaded with the 15-year-old girl “do us all a favour … don’t reproduce. and the next car u (sic) steal I hope you find a solid pole and rid the community of an oxygen thief.
Replying to one commenter asking “kids driving stolen cars … where are the parents?”, the sister said “parents don’t know half this sh** and can’t control their children, u cannot blame the parents”.
The Courier Mail has attempted to reach out to the sister via her social media accounts but they were switched to private within moments of her comments being aired on the public forum.
The house where the Courier Mail understands the girl’s family lives, was also visited previously but was quiet and nobody appeared to be home.
Meanwhile, floral tributes continue to grow around a set of nurse scrubs in a makeshift memorial near the crash scene.
A fourth victim, 23-year-old Kaylah Behrens remains in a critical condition.
The 13-year-old alleged driver of the stolen Mercedes police allege caused the crash remains before the courts charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing death.
