Maryborough’s celebration of pop culture saw a movie star mingle among the crowd, a wide collection of costumes and activities ranging from jousting to professional wrestling.

FraserPop, planned and put together by the talented students of Maryborough State High School, was held on the weekend and was bigger and better than ever, despite the impact of COVID in New South Wales and Brisbane.

The award-winning pop culture festival was held on the grounds of the school on Saturday and Sunday.

The event welcomed back fan favourites including the Sons of Obiwan Light Saber Academy, jousters, medieval re-enactments from Riverbend and the Mad Hatters Tea Party, just to name a few.

Principal Simon Done said from sanitising stations to QR codes, the kids organising the event had swung into action to make sure it was compliant with health directions.

“The kids had to do a COVID checklist and put requests into Queensland Health,” he said.
Mr Done said the kids were able to handle the logistics of a major event during the pandemic.
