A Hervey Bay teenager was hospitalised overnight with a head injury after the car she was driving went off the road and down an embankment at Point Vernon.

Police confirmed on Thursday the single vehicle incident took place just before 10.30pm at the corner of The Esplanade and Martin St. A white Holden Commodore travelling east towards Pialba slid off the road and into the embankment, they said.

The embankment is particularly deep at the opening of Martin St and there are no guard rails or gutters along large stretches of Point Vernon’s portion of The Esplanade.

The female driver was taken to Hervey Bay hospital in a stable condition with a head injury.

Police on the scene treated the incident as “completely accidental” and said the driver lost control on a wet, slippery road.
