IT HAS been a long time between drinks but Hervey Bay Seagulls have finally broken through for their first title since 2001.

The Seagulls trailed The Waves 12-0 midway through the first half of yesterday's Bundaberg Rugby League grand final, but found a way to level by the break.

A Clinton Horne penalty handed the red-and-green machine a two-point buffer until Terry Horne scored in the corner with nine minutes left to play.

Clinton's sideline conversion made it 20-12, but despite late pressure the Seagulls held on to make club history.

Outgoing coach Tye Ingebrigtsen, who will move to Cairns in the off-season, said the grand final victory was for the long-term players, coaches, and supporters of the club.
