Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre vandalised in ‘senseless’ attack
Police are investigating the overnight trashing of Hervey Bay’s Aquatic Centre in which the offenders trashed objects and threw items into the pool.

Vandals have trashed the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre in an overnight break-in called “a disappointing and senseless” by the council.
The break-in occurred Wednesday night, with those responsible damaging garbage bins, signs, cleaning products, throwing paper towels into the pools and a destroying an electrical power point beyond repair.
Fencing around the facility was also damaged, and an emergency shower in the chemical room was left running for hours.

The centre was able to open Thursday, with staff forced to undertake a complete stock take to see if anything was stolen.

A Fraser Coast Regional Council spokesman said it was “disappointing to see such senseless vandalism from a group of people who seem to have nothing better to do than make a mess in a community facility”.
The damage was reported to police, he said.
“The centre has CCTV cameras with the footage available to the police as needed.”
“We encourage anyone who sees Council facilities being vandalised or has information about last night’s incident to contact our call centre on 1300 79 49 29 at any time of the day or night.”
Police are investigating the matter alongside several other unidentified incidents which occurred on Boundary Rd overnight.
