A couple has made a sky-high arrival to their Year 12 formal, flying to the event in a helicopter.
All eyes were on Neo Oellermann and Emily Southy as they landed in a paddock near the Brolga Theatre as students and families gathered for the Riverside Christian College formal on Friday.
Neo said he had his pilot licence and worked as an aircraft mechanic.
His passion for flying meant he wanted to make an airborne arrival at his formal.
The owners of the helicopter were family friends and planning for the grand entrance had begun in January, Neo said.
The plan had been approved two months again, Neo said.
Emily said it was her first time in a helicopter.
She said while she had been nervous at first, the experience was also exciting.
Emily said when she heard the plan she was “pretty much all for it,” adding that their entrance to the formal was “really cool”.
Other students made their arrival in classic cars, including a golden Rolls Royce, and one couple arrived in the back of a ute.
Dressed to the nines in suits and stunning dresses, the students were ready to celebrate the end of their school years at the event.
The formal follows other school celebrations this week.
On Tuesday night, Aldridge State High School held its formal.
Then on Thursday, Hervey Bay High School celebrated its formal at Urangan’s Waterfront Restaurant.
Also on Friday night, Urangan State High School and Bayside Christian College held end of year celebrations for the graduating students.
