Guzman Y Gomez opens its Hervey Bay store

Drivers queued around the block for a taste of the hottest new dining ticket in town as Guzman Y Gomez officially opened in Hervey Bay. See the video and how to apply.

It’s official – popular Mexican food franchise Guzman Y Gomez has opened its doors in Hervey Bay.

The company’s famously bright yellow and black building had looked complete at the Boat Harbour Drive (next to Bunnings and Hungry Jacks) site for several weeks but the doors opened to the public on Tuesday.

Cars queued around the block to check out the new eatery which will also serve alcoholic drinks including sangria, beers and margaritas.

GYG spokesman Steven Marks said Hervey Bay had been key in the company’s real estate expansion due to huge local demand.

“We have had customers telling us today they have driven as far as Bundaberg and Maroochydore to get GYG each week,” he said

“We’re in awe of Hervey Bay’s commitment to our food.

“We have had cars lined up on the main road but we’re moving fast and our drive thrus are made for this type of opening.

“We want to thank the local community as well as a number of local businesses who have supported the opening, it’s been a huge community effort.”

The biggest draw cards were $5 burritos and bowls and while the deal was only on offer on opening day, the store’s impact on the community is expected to be long-lasting.

Along with the 70-strong team already hired, 105 positions are expected to open at the store between now and February.

The restaurant will be serving breakfast from 7am to 10:30am and GYG’s regular menu from 10:30am to 10pm, seven days a week.
