‘Get yourself in the door’: Workshops to be held in Hervey Bay for aspiring extras

Budding actors and those who are curious about stepping behind the scenes of the silver screen have been invited to take part in a new workshop designed for aspiring extras and background performers.
The Acting Extras Workshops will take place in Hervey Bay on July 13, 2025, at Z-PAC Theatre.
The workshops are offering a rare opportunity to learn directly from screen industry professionals.
Participants will gain hands-on experience and insider knowledge about what it takes to work as a background actor in television, film, and streaming productions.
“If I could offer one piece of advice to any aspiring actors it’s to get yourself in the door as an extra,” Screen Fraser Coast co-chair Amy Friesen said in a statement.
“The amount of onset learning you can achieve and connections you can make will help set you up on a solid path in the industry.
“This is the entry level space where you earn the agents, directors and other industry professionals trust and can stand out by your work ethic and professionalism.”
Whether you’re dreaming of being part of the industry on or simply want to try something new, this workshop is the perfect way to explore screen acting in a fun, supportive environment.
This hands-on, half-day workshop is designed for anyone who wants to explore working as a film or TV extra.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or just looking to polish your on-set skills, you’ll learn how professional film sets operate, what casting directors look for in extras, how to move, behave and stay camera-ready on set and tips for getting noticed and getting rebooked.
No previous experience is necessary, and the workshops are open to participants aged 16 and up.
All attendees will receive practical training, industry insights, and tips on how to get cast in real productions.
