Rangers on K’gari are investigating after a German tourist was bitten on the shin by a dingo on the eastern side of the island.
According to a Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service statement on Friday, the incident occurred on Gerowweea Creek on March 13 when the man who had been a part of a group of four had gotten out of his vehicle to check the water depth.
While doing this, a female dingo who he had not noticed approached him and bit his right shin, causing a small laceration.
The bite caused the man to jump onto the bonnet to escape the dingo a Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service spokesman said.
The man was treated by paramedics at Eurong but did not require any significant treatment.
The bite comes only days after a tracking collar was placed on a female dingo.
The QWPS recommends all visitors to the island to carry a stick with them at all times and to report any negative interactions with dingoes to 07 4127 9150 or dingo.ranger@des.qld.gov.au
