MOURNERS placed gum leaves on the casket of alleged murder victim, June Wallis, in a moving service to farewell the "smile of Burrum".
About 500 people packed the Hervey Bay Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon to honour the well-respected 32-year-old mother of two, whose body was discovered in her Pacific Haven home on March 22.
An array of colourful flowers and a riding saddle decorated the stage behind June's casket symbolising her love of horses and the colour she brought to the lives of those who knew her.
After moving to Hervey Bay at the age of six, June developed a competitive nature and participated in athletics where she represented both the Wide Bay district and Queensland.
She grew to love horses after reading the Saddle Club books and at the age of 10, was given her first horse, Cassie.
June's passion for horses continued to grow as she did and she decided to study horse health and breeding programs, and horse psychology and physiology.
Working at a bakery in Burrum Heads, she became known around town as "the smile of Burrum" because of her warm and welcoming nature.
She was always happy to give people advice and a shoulder to lean on.
Funeral officiator Annette Georgiou read out a message to June from her father Paul.
"I held you at birth and I'll carry you at death, you were the light of my life," Paul wrote.
"Your children have your same personality and smiles which will carry us through this time.
"You were known as the smile of Burrum and will always be the smile of Burrum."
June will be remembered for her happy-go-lucky, curious and honest attitude.
She was described as a strong-willed, intelligent young woman who had an endless, unconditional love for her children.
June's husband, Nathan Peter Norman Greenfield, has been identified as the only suspect in her alleged murder but criminal charges against him were suspended this week pending the outcome of a mental health assessment.
