Just weeks after a shocking dog attack claimed the life of a Maryborough woman, another incident in the Heritage City has left a man with bite wounds to his legs.

Bevan Chapman and his partner Sandy Matthews were taking their daily walk along Saltwater Creek Road on Tuesday when they were confronted by two large dogs.

The couple had commented on the dogs previously, having noticed the animals barking ferociously behind a fence.

“In the light of that poor lady being killed, everyone has been on tenterhooks,” Sandy said.

But this time the fence was open and the dogs were loose.

The couple attempted to cross the road to get out of the way of the dogs, but heavy traffic meant they couldn’t get away.

When they turned around, the dogs were in “full attack mode”, Sandy said.

Bevan put himself between the animals and Sandy and bore the brunt of the attack, suffering bite wounds to his legs.

Sandy could only look on in shock as the attack unfolded.

Thankfully, a man in a vehicle saw what was happening and reversed his vehicle in an effort to distract the dogs.

It was then, while the dogs were distracted, that Sandy realised Bevan had been bitten.

The dogs ran back into the yard and the man drove Sandy and Bevan back to their Aubinville home.

The couple went to Maryborough Hospital where Bevan was treated for his bites, placed on antibiotics and given a tetanus shot.

It comes in the wake of the death of Amanda Carmichael, who was killed by three dogs at a home in Milton Street on June 8.

The three dogs involved in the attack were unregistered and were destroyed in the wake of the incident.

“I can’t imagine her fear – I’ve never been so scared in all my life,” Sandy said.

“Even when I was diagnosed with cancer I wasn’t that scared.”

A Fraser Coast Regional Council spokesman confirmed the matter had been reported to the council and was currently under investigation.
The owner of the two dogs involved in the most recent attack chose themselves to engage the services of a local vet to euthanise the dogs.
