THE green frog has returned to its rightful place at the Teddington Weir after its pool was destroyed by the Fraser Coast Regional Council last month.

He has been embedded on a special brick pedestal.

The frog was removed from the site after the destruction of the much-loved pool, which Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said had to be demolished because of structural damage.

Instead the council has spent $35,000 on turning the area into a grassed playground.

The demolition of the pool prompted strong reactions in Maryborough.

One woman was arrested on site while staging a sit-in to try to save the frog pool from destruction.

With the opening of the $6.5 million Maryborough Aquatic Centre timed to coincide with the destruction of the Teddington Weir pool and the construction of the new playground, Cr O'Connell said in November that residents would have a new centre to enjoy during the warm summer months.
