Friday's earthquake goes unnoticed by most Coast residents

GeoScience Australia's earthquake division said it may have been felt up to 62km from its epicentre - leaving any shaking still more about 40km from shore.

AN EARTHQUAKE which struck off Fraser Island on Friday morning has gone unnoticed by residents.

The magnitude four quake hit 10km deep about 100km off the island.

On Facebook most of the Chronicle's readers said they could not feel anything.

This quake went unnoticed by Krystle Wellings who said: "So many earthquakes this year - I've missed every single one."

But Tina Mcalister said she could feel something in Torquay: "I was wondering if it was another earthquake."

"Felt it in Torquay."

The amount that we have had out there so far might be leading up to something bigger.

In late July, a 5.2 magnitude quake struck about 150km east of Fraser Island, shaking homes from Bundaberg to Brisbane.

It caused delays to train schedules as railway lines were inspected for signs of damage.
