Fun at the Fraser Coast Show

From dagwood dogs to sky high rides and cattle competitions, there was plenty of action on the first day of the Fraser Coast Show.

Legendary horseman Guy McLean leant his talents to the horse riding competition, while the Queensland Country Showjumping Championships attracted onlookers keen to see the skills of the region’s riders.

Beau Gordon, 12, from Aldridge State High School, claimed first place in the junior handlers competition, showing his skill with cattle.

The school gives him regular opportunities to practice his skills and it’s a talent that has been recognised before, with Beau also claiming first place at the Noosa Country Show.

His tip for handling cattle was simple.

“Try not to be nervous and scared, they can sense that,” he said.

While he has excelled at competition before, Beau said it was special to compete at the Fraser Coast Show.

“It’s local, so it’s a lot of fun,” he said.

Beau said he might get the chance to go on a few rides now that he’d participated in his competition.

Elsewhere, Stephanie Wright, Jensen Suter and Mitchell Gordon were enjoying the sights and sounds of the show.

“We’re having fun, it’s great,” Ms Wright said.

Lorrin Bosel and her daughter Lacee had a ball looking at the cute farm animals in a pen set up for the kids.

Organisers of the show were thrilled it would go ahead after months of doubt caused by the floods and Covid mandates.

On Friday the fun will continue, with Mr McLean appearing alongside the Southern Cross Xtreme Cowboys, fireworks and a rodeo.
