But what makes a good bartender great?
Maybe it’s the moustache and hair, which Timo van Hest told the Chronicle is part of his “look”, which gives those drinks a magic touch.
Hair aside, if you want the beverages to make your night out, Timo from 19XO – located at 414B Esplanade in Torquay – is the man to ask.
After moving from Brisbane to the Bay when his plans to “work on a vineyard in Sicily” were interrupted, the 26-year-old has brought night-life culture to the Coast.
“I was working in hospitality while studying and just fell in love with (working in hospitality) ... every day is very different, you get to meet different people and there’s often new challenges which are never the same ... it’s also is a little bit chaotic, which is fun,” Timo told the Chronicle.
“Everyone that comes through the door has different expectations, you’re always juggling to make sure that everyone has a really good night, but that night looks different to every person.”
Timo said his favourite to mix-up was a gin sour, as good old-fashioned lemon drops, negronis and pina coladas make up guests’ favourites.
“I just like being a part of people’s nights out because you’re always there for everyone’s celebrations and that’s really special,” he said.
