A person was trapped briefly and four injured in a two-vehicle crash on the Fraser Coast.

Paramedics were called to the scene just after 10am at the intersection of Ann and Cypress streets, one block away from the busy Esplanade in Torquay.

Paramedics were looking over five people, one of which is a primary school aged boy.

One person had become trapped in a car when the door would not open, but was rescued by Queensland Fire Department crews.

The road was blocked for some time, with police on scene to redirect traffic.

Three patients with minor injuries have been taken to Hervey Bay hospital in stable conditions.

Police investigations into what caused the crash are ongoing.
