Fire investigators have attended the scene of a blaze that tore through a Maryborough home on Tuesday.
Firefighters rushed to the scene on York Avenue with other emergency services, where plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from a two-storey suburban house.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said five fire fighting crews were called to the scene, with some firefighters in breathing apparatus.
Neighbours stood on the street in shock and disbelief, watching the house engulfed by flames and smoke.
The Chronicle spoke to neighbours who said it was a “shock” to see the house go up in flames.
The family who lives in the house were not at home when the fire took hold, but arrived home to find all of their possessions destroyed.
They did not want to be named, but said they were just relieved nobody had been hurt.
Station officer Shaun Murphy said the house was “fully involved” when crews arrived.
Initial reports were that someone may be inside, but crews were relieved to find that was not the case.
Action also had to be taken to protect neighbouring homes from the blaze.
Mr Murphy urged people to make sure their fire alarms were in working order.
He said investigations into the house fire would get underway on Wednesday morning.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said traffic diversions were in place due to the smoke.
Initial reports indicated there was no one inside the house at the time of the blaze, a spokesperson said.
Paramedics were called to the scene, but there were no reported injuries.
Ergon was at the scene disconnecting the power.
