RANGERS are ready to act to save ferry links to Fraser Island as beachfront continues to collapse at Inskip Pt.
The erosion wall is now a metre from the edge of the only access road that leads to the ferry departure point on the western tip of the Inskip peninsula.
"Trees that have collapsed on the beach seem to be protecting the road to an extent, there are dozens that have gone down," Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service regional manager for Great Sandy Marine Park Ross Belcher said.
"It is highly likely that if bad weather continues that the erosion could impact on the road and we might have to close it."
Mr Belcher said the ferry operator is aware the road is in peril and has tested a new landing spot about 1km to the east of the preferred beach landing zone.
"We have all the signage ready and are prepared to move if the road is affected," Mr Belcher said.
"There will be no problem maintaining ferry links.
"We might have to look at a realignment of the road in the medium term in co-operation with Gympie Council."
