KEVIN Brand reckons delivering a baby is one of the most amazing things you can do as a paramedic.

Mungar's Lucinda Van Bael went into intense labour at 10.45pm on August 29.

She woke her husband, Robin, and arranged for her mum to come out to look after their daughter, Calista, before they started driving to Hervey Bay Hospital.

An ambulance was called to meet up with the couple because Lucinda's labour was progressing so quickly.

Her contractions were about two minutes apart and she did not know if they would make it to the hospital on time, so they started driving toward Maryborough Base Hospital where they met up with the ambulance on Walker St.

Lucinda entered the ambulance and made it as far as Pallas St, with Robin following behind in their car, before they had to pull over - Lucinda was having the baby.

Robin rushed over to the ambulance just in time to see Kevin, the ambulance officer looking after Lucinda, deliver his baby boy.

Their son, Logan James, was born three weeks early at 12.34am on August 30.

Robin cut the cord and the ambulance then took the baby and Lucinda to Hervey Bay Hospital, with Robin following closely behind them.

It was the first time Kevin had delivered a baby.

He had previously helped with the arrival of another baby, but this was the first time he had delivered the baby himself.

"It's incredible," he said.
