LEARN how to make your garden more wildlife friendly at a workshop on June 21 at the Fraser Coast Community Nursery in Urangan.
Councillor for community George Seymour said the event would prove useful for people who wanted to transform their gardens into native habitats.
"We can all do a bit more to help make our gardens more sustainable and welcoming for native wildlife," he said.
"The presence of native wildlife is a good indicator of a healthy community and - where possible - we should do what we can to provide good habitat in our gardens.
Practical concepts to be discussed and demonstrated at the workshop include:
- sustainable gardening
- creating and managing frog ponds
- bird-friendly gardens
- native bees
- illustrations of common frogs and butterflies
- wildlife-friendly plants eg. butterfly plants.
Admission to the workshop is $5 per person and afternoon tea is included.
This workshop is joint effort by the council and the Fraser Coast Branch of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland.
"I am really pleased that the members from the Wildlife Preservation Society are presenting this community education workshop," Cr Seymour said.
"Council really appreciates and continues to support their ongoing commitment and work for the native wildlife of the Fraser Coast."
The workshop will be held from 1pm to 3pm at the Community Native Nursery behind the Urangan Community Centre on Elizabeth St.
