Easter thief steals Aramex courier van at Maryborough, Qld

The police investigation into the alleged robbery of a courier van and dozens of parcels from a regional Qld depot, only days before Easter, has uncovered the vehicle.

An allegedly stolen courier van swiped from the Aramex depot at Maryborough has reportedly been found burnt out and abandoned.

A courier van allegedly stolen from an Aramex depot at Maryborough along with dozens of parcels has reportedly been found torched and abandoned less than 24 hours after it was swiped.

The white Toyota Hiace bearing Aramex decals was reportedly taken by the thief who gained access to the Kingston Dr depot in Maryborough on Good Friday.

Police said the thief was able to grab keys to the van and then fled the area.

It was later seen by a member of the public that same afternoon in bushland off Bryant St, at the city’s north.

In a Facebook post, the resident said she was driving on the street on the city’s northern side when she saw the van “down one of the tracks further in”.

When she drove towards the van “it took off further in to the bush”.

Good Friday has taken a bad turn for a Maryborough courier service and its customers after one of its vans was reportedly stolen by a thief who then ripped open dozens of parcels and dumped the packaging in bushland.

Upon arriving at the spot it had been she found opened parcels strewn across the ground, “clean despite all the rain we’ve had”.

The dumped packaging was returned by a member of the public to the city’s Aramex depot.

It was claimed on social media up to 50 parcels were believed to have been loaded onto the van by the alleged thief before the vehicle was driven away.

Veneska Du Toit, who appeared to represent the Aramex branch, posted on Facebook shortly after the packaging was found confirming the theft and calling for community help to track the vehicle down.

The alleged thief was wearing a “black hoodie with a bluish face mask”.

it has been claimed up to 50 parcels were loaded onto the van before it was allegedly stolen by the thief.

Mr Du Toit said “based on our thorough investigation, no Aramex employees are involved in this incident” and “all parcels shipped with Aramex are insured”.

“In the unfortunate event of theft, rest assured that the affected parcels will be covered by our insurance policy.

“We are committed to resolving this matter promptly and ensuring the security and safety of all shipments entrusted to us.”

Shortly after 2.30pm Friday, Mr Du Toit updated the post saying they had found the van and it had been burnt out.

Police confirmed they were investigating and had found the burnt-out vehicle about 2.30pm at Churchill Mines Rd, Dundathu.

The investigation continues and no charges have been laid.
