A quirky new attraction planned for the toilet block at Maryborough’s City Hall is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O‘Brien announced new federal funding for the Divine Dunnies project on Thursday.
“The Divine Dunnies project is a clever, creative way of improving Maryborough’s amenities, supporting tourism and boosting the local economy, and I am pleased to support the project with $5000 through the Stronger Communities Program,” Mr O’Brien said.
“This funding will add to more than $25,000 in community donations raised by the Maryborough City Progress Association, and $53,000 from the Fraser Coast Regional Council to create an attraction for residents and travellers, that will help to boost the CBD and encourage more people to explore Maryborough’s priceless historic assets.”
Mr O’Brien commended project leaders Nancy Bates and Nan Ott on their work with the Maryborough City Progress Association Divine Dunnies subcommittee to make the project a reality.
“The planned refurbishment will creatively upgrade the facilities to a standard unsurpassed by other similar facilities in Australia, builds on Maryborough’s reputation as a quirky and charming tourist destination, and ultimately, will support local jobs,” he said.
“Divine Dunnies is a worthwhile project that ties in with Maryborough’s history, architecture, and creativity, complimenting Maryborough’s many local attractions, and will be another drawcard encouraging people to visit and stay in Maryborough.”
