POLICE will not be conducting a dive to search for the two Bundaberg men who went missing after their trawler capsized off Fraser Island.

Queensland Police made the announcement that divers were not able to safely reach the Cassandra.

"After days of an extensive aerial search involving multiple agencies - as well as patrols of Fraser Island's coastline - a vessel believed to be the Cassandra was located roughly 47 metres below the ocean's surface," the statement reads.

"The depth of the vessel's location means that QPS divers are unable to safely reach it."

David Chivers, 36, and Matt Roberts, 60, are still missing despite an extensive air search of the area.

The search operation is now moving into a second phase which will ensure coronial and operations requirements are met.
