A FRASER Island dingo pup bit off more than he could chew when he found himself entangled in fishing hooks and tackle.
The three-and-a-half month old pup had hooks embedded in his mouth, paw and front and rear legs which seriously impeded his movements.
Fraser Island rangers responded quickly earlier this week after finding the injured pup south of the Eurong township.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers caught the male dingo and sedated him to assess his injuries.
"The four hooks were removed and the wounds flushed with antiseptic under veterinary consultation," ranger in charge of Natural Resource Management Linda Behrendorff said.
"QPWS staff would monitor the animal's condition regularly for any sign of infection."
Veterinary advice would be sought if the wounds became infected, she said.
Ms Behrendorff said the dingo was one of a litter eight known pups area and weighed 10.3kg.
Visitors have been urged to dispose of bait and fishing tackle responsibly.
The RSPCA was also notified of the incident.
