Community throws support behind former Red Betty singer Bobby Barnes

The community has thrown its support behind the heartbroken family of a beloved musician and father who was found dead on the weekend after being reported missing.

Thousands of dollars have been raised for the grieving family of a much-loved Fraser Coast musician and father who was found dead on the weekend.

Bobby Barnes, 50, a former member of popular Fraser Coast band Red Betty, was reported missing to police by his family after they were unable to contact him.

On Saturday his sister, Tracie Alexander, said Mr Barnes finished his shift at Tiaro sawmill about 12pm on Thursday and had not been seen since as his family and police searched for any sign of him.

Tragically, Mr Barnes was found dead on Sunday.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Posting to Red Betty’s Facebook page, Ms Alexander shared the devastating news with friends, family and loyal fans.

“It breaks our hearts to share with you the news that Bobby is no longer with us,” the post read.

“There’s no more suffering with the hurt he was going through.

“Thank you to each and every one of you for all your support during this time, I know the love that every one of you felt for him and we appreciate each and every one of you.”

A Go Fund Me page has been started to help raise funds for Mr Barnes’ funeral.

So far, almost $4000 has been raised.

The loss of Mr Barnes has been met with an outpouring of grief from the community.

Fellow Fraser Coast musician Frank Benn said he was sending his love to his family.

Michele Hansen spoke of Mr Barnes’ “wonderful, powerful voice”.

Carol Welch said her thoughts were with his family and friends.

“I spent many an evening enjoying his amazing talent,” she said.

Cheryl Middis said it was heartbreaking news.

“You were a beautiful person and such a talented singer,” she said.

“You will be greatly missed by so many people.”
