As a staff member at a busy Hervey Bay hotel, Terryl Mcdonough left an impression on everyone she met.
The brave 41-year-old lost her battle with ovarian cancer on Saturday, March 4, 2023, prompting an outpouring of grief for the beloved sister, daughter and friend, who worked at the Beach House Hotel’s bottle shop.
Venue manager Dave Wright paid tribute to Ms Mcdonough on Thursday, saying she was honest to a fault and would always “tell you how it is”.
“She looked after everybody,” he said.
“She was like everyone’s sister.”
Ms Mcdonough had a passion for plants and pink flamingos, spreading a sense of fun wherever she went, Mr Wright said.
“It’s a tragic loss,” he said.
“Everyone at the hotel loved her. We’re all in shock.”
Her brother Wade posted on Facebook, sharing his sorrow that his little sister wouldn’t be at his wedding in six weeks.
“It still doesn’t feel real,” he wrote.
In her funeral announcement, Ms Mcdonough was remembered as the much-loved daughter of Christine and Kerry Soper and Peter Mcdonough, the beloved partner of Andrew Skerry, as well as the “best aunty in the whole wide world” to Emma and Sammie.
Her funeral will be held on March 13, at J Kirk & Sons Crematorium from 11am, with pink flamingo attire welcome.
The family asked that donations be made to ovarian cancer research in lieu of flowers.
